The declaration requirements for pet food are specified by the feed regulation and EU directives.

According to regulation (EC) 767/2009, article 3 complete feeds are compound feeds which, due to their composition, are sufficient for a daily ration. When used exclusively, they safely cover the nutritional requirements of the animals.

Pursuant to § 3 (11) German food and feed code (LFGB), feed materials are individual substances intended to be fed to animals for the purpose of animal nutrition in their unprocessed, prepared, processed or treated condition.

Pursuant to § 1 para 1 (2) of the feed regulation, supplementary feeds are compound feeds containing a higher content of certain substances (in particular ingredients or additives) in comparison with a complete feed for the relevant animal category, and which, by virtue of their composition, are intended to be used as a supplement to other feeds to meet the nutritional requirements of the animals.

The "Ingredients analysis" rubric on our packaging provides an accurate nutrient analysis of our products.

Here you will find precise information about how much protein (crude protein), fat (crude fat), dietary fibre (crude fibre) and minerals (crude ash) are contained in the feed. The amount of digestible crude protein is also an important item of information. This value says much more about the digestibility and nutrient content of a feed than the total amount of protein.

Under ''composition'' on our packaging you will find all the ingredients that have been processed in the respective food, in descending order according to their proportion.

In particular, the terms "meat and animal by-products" or "vegetable by-products" require some explanation. In both cases, quality in the industry varies greatly, since inferior "by-products" may also be processed for pet food. Vet-Concept adheres to a simple principle: We only use ingredients that are also suitable and authorised for human consumption.

Additives are components of a feed that are not derived from the raw materials. These include, for example, important minerals, trace elements and vitamins, which make our pet food even more valuable. On the other hand, Vet-Concept dispenses with additives such as colourings and flavourings or chemical preservatives.

Flavour or odour enhancers are often referred to as attractants. These are available in both chemical and natural form. Vet-Concept dispenses with chemical additives and deliberately works with natural ingredients. Thus, for example, a liver or a rumen which is an ingredient for its nutritional value can also be attractive to four-legged friends due to its smell.

Understandably, end consumers, like our customers, are concerned that although the ingredients they contain are filling, they are not nutritious. Typical fillers are, for example, peanut pods or cocoa bean pods. However, we do not use these.

By showing the digestible crude protein of our pet food, we show what we have in us and demonstrate the high digestibility of the proteins. In addition, all our complete feeds are only complete feeds because they cover the normal needs of a four-legged friend in accordance with the latest scientific standards.

The term "by-products" comes from feed legislation and refers to the groups of raw materials which are obtained as by-products from harvest (plant products) and slaughter (animal products).

Animal by-products include organs (such as the liver, lungs and heart) that contain many nutrients.

Herbal by-products are, for example, the cell walls of beet molasses, which can have a favourable effect on colonic flora.

We process muscle meat and organs (such as liver, kidneys, lungs, stomach, rumen, spleen) for our complete feed.

Full grains of spelt, wheat, rye and rice, corn, millet, oats and fermented barley are used for processing. Vegetables such as potatoes, pumpkin, parsnips, carrots, sweet potatoes and peas from controlled cultivation are also used. In addition, depending on the article herbal mixtures, fruits and seeds are included.

The formulations and compositions of our products are based on the latest scientific knowledge. We have accordingly also had good experiences in pet nutrition with a carefully selected carbohydrate proportion in out cat food.

Wet food approx. 75%

Supplement (powder, pellets) approx. 5%

Vet-Concept exclusively processes the cell walls of the molasses, i.e. it is an extremely de-sugared variant of the dry chips with a maximum of 0.2% natural sugar content. Among other things, they are responsible for consistency of faecal matter, but also have a positive effect on the intestinal flora, thus serving as prebiotics and providing vitamin B for the body. They are used only where useful in terms of nutritional physiology.

Mannan oligosaccharides (MOS) are also referred to as yeast extract.

These are yeast cell walls from Saccharosemyces cerevisiae complexes, which serve as fibre and roughage.

Fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS): FOS are vegetable fibres such as inulin derived from chicory root. They serve as a nutrient substrate for beneficial intestinal bacteria such as lactobacilli and bifidobacteria. Accelerated multiplication of these bacteria promotes nitrogen binding and the excretion of harmful digestive end products. FOS in pet food helps to maintain a healthily balance in the bacterial colonisation of the intestine.

When calculating recommended feed quantities, we use scientific evidence that has been proven; e.g. information from the European Pet Food Industry Federation (fediaf). In principle, these are recommended values that can be interpreted differently depending on the pet. Our specialist consultants will be happy to answer any questions you may have about how much to feed your pet.

The croquettes of dry food can be moistened, for example in lukewarm water. However, it can take up to an hour to completely soften due to the baking process that it undergoes when being manufactured.

Opened dry food:
When properly stored (cool, below 20 degrees, dry, dark) we give a shelf life guarantee of the closed bag (MHD). The recommendation to use up the opened food bag within 4 months is based on the possible loss of taste and smell that can occur when the food bag is open. In sensitive animals, this can lead to a refusal to eat, although the food is still perfectly edible. Neither nutrient nor vitamin loss is to be expected.

Opened canned food:
We recommend emptying the food out into a plastic or porcelain container. Covered, sealed in the refrigerator. Leaving the food in the can may change the taste and this could reduce acceptance. Wet food can be frozen immediately after opening, similarly to a piece of cooked meat.

Rape and sunflower oil are always processed in our dry food. No further oils is added to most of our wet food. If oils are added here, these are listed in the composition.

Contained fats come from the corresponding processed meat.
